Speech and Debate

Welcome to Oakville's Speech and Debate Team page!

We are an interscholastic, extra-curricular activity requiring time after school and on weekends.  Through practices and competitions we improve critical and analytical thinking, reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.

Each student may choose which tournaments to attend.  Per MSHSAA rules (Missouri State High School Activities Association), a student may attend no more than 11 tournaments in a school year, excluding MSHSAA Districts and State. **

We have practices Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:20 - 4:00 PM in Room 100.

In order to compete a student must sign up in advance for a tournament and attend at least one practice per week and show the coaches (Mrs. Brown, Mr. Taylor) the student is prepared for competition.  Of course, a student can come to every practice.  We may have all the public forum debaters working in one room, all the interpers in another, all the congress kids researching and writing in the library.  At some point the student will perform or debate in front of one of the coaches.

Interested in joining the team?  Talk to Mr. Taylor.  For more information please refer to the Team Handbook.
